Reunion with ET in Istanbul

ET with DHD book!

I guess you all have read DHD. There is this character: a Turkish guy that DHD met in a train to Ankara and so on. Yep, that is E.T!

Trinity (co-author of DHD) or DD just recently met ET again in Istanbul! Besides catching up with the latest gossips, she gave him this DHD graphic travelogue. DD translated everything to ET, and ET was overwhelmed!

ET said, “I was surprised how meticulously the events were depicted and how every character gave something to a unique adventure! Good job!” He also praised Sheila Rooswitha’s work and really like to meet our illustrator.

It was a nice reunion, although KK was not there with them. We then shared latest news of our lives since 3 years ago. Hasan (another character in DHD) is still living in Cappadoccia with his big family. ET and Hasan remain friends through Facebook

What about ET? Unlike the guy that DHD met 3 years ago as depicted in DHD, ET is now having a big buff body with long hair and beard. He even requested to Sheila for the next DHD book to “make a little more muscular”. Yup, he’s been working out in the gym, but doesn’t want to be a body builder again like he was before in USA.

His job? You won’t believe it: he is an actor and TV personality! “My life has changed after we met,” said ET. He is now living in a big 4-storey house overlooking Bosphorus strait. He’s having chicken and quails in his backyard, and a dog called Nia. How popular is ET? Well, when DD and ET were walking in Tema Park, some of the locals approached ET and took pictures together

The Dynamic Hippos on Venture Magazine

Starting on September 2010, Duo Hippo Dinamis (DHD, or “The Dynamic Hippos” in English) is featured regularly in Venture Magazine as comic strips. Venture is a bimonthly travel magazine in English, distributed in Indonesia and soon in Asia Pacific.

Trinity, co-author of DHD is the Editor in Chief of Venture. She wanted DHD readers are able to read DHD more often since the pubishing of DHD book will take at least a year. Besides, it’s one step closer for DHD to go international in a way.
As for Venture, DHD is suitable to their target market and they want a fun travel magazine.

Author Erastiany, grahic illustrator Sheila Rooswitha, and publisher Roni Amdani are still the creators of DHD. It’s quite a challenge to create DHD in English with “international sense of humor” but we are glad that we have been getting positive feedbacks from the international readers.

Buku “Duo Hippo Dinamis: Tersesat di Byzantium” dapat dibeli di toko-toko buku terdekat. Di Jawa dan Sumatra sudah ada, pulau2 lain menyusul secara bertahap. Ah, Indonesia memang luas!

Ada yang bilang buku ini “nggak nemu di toko buku”, padahal banyak tersedia.
Berikut tips mencari buku ini:
[1] Ada jutaan buku yang ada di toko buku, maka agak sulit menemukan buku yang dicari dengan hanya melihat saja. Sebagian toko menaruh DHD di bagian “buku baru” atau “buku laris”, sebagian di rak “komik”, “pariwisata”, bahkan di rak “buku anak-anak”.
[2] DHD memang tidak masuk ke kategori buku ”novel” melainkan “komik”, jadi kemungkinan besar ada di rak “komik”.
[3] Sayangnya sangat jarang ada toko buku yang punya rak “komik dewasa” sehingga ada kemungkinan digabung dengan komik anak-anak.
[4] Paling gampang, begitu masuk toko buku sih tanya ke petugasnya – biar mereka yang menunjukkan di mana buku DHD.
[5] Di toko buku Gramedia, tersedia komputer untuk mencari. Search berdasarkan judul “DHD: Tersesat di Byzantium“. Jika mencari dengan keyword “Duo Hippo”, maka tidak akan keluar di data base-nya. Lebih gampang lagi search berdasarkan nama pengarang, masukkan keyword “Trinity” maka pasti ketemu.

Take a look at these 2 pictures. If you found the difference, it means that some of the graphics in the book has been censored by the publisher. Not only this but there are some other, like cleavage and bikini.

Why it has to be censored? 
Erastiany, co-author, is not happy about that. She said, ”Why we have to hide the facts? Duo Hippo Dinamis is for adult readers who should know the good and the bad.”
While on the other side, Salman Faridi, CEO of Bentang Pustaka, explained, ”Censorship is to widen the segment of readers. Besides, we have a moral responsibility to the readers.”
